I agree with you there. I live in a nice area that is only about 20 min away from a not so nice area if you know what I mean and worry if something goes bump in the night. As for guns that I am looking at I really like the feel and weight of the Sig P226 over the Glock models I have shot before...They are very light and I am a bigger guy and like the size of the P226 handle and feel of the grips better because I have bigger hands. I talked to a guy at a gun store and he told me he shoots the 1911 but it's not the best gun to get as your first pistol since it's a hotter 45 ACP round and has heavier slide springs and is a little more complicated to take apart than a Glock or Sig. I did like the 1911's really light trigger pull though, but The Sig was moron proof to take apart and put back together. I really feel a lot of these guns are all the same in terms of quality, just comes down to personal preference and budget at this point.
I agree

I was issued a government issue .45 acp a lifetime ago, when in the Marine Corps. I don't know what it was called (1911 ??). I disagree with the store owner regarding the difficulty of taking down, cleaning and assembly, as all semiautos have their little qurks/techniques to learn. The .45 acp's were a lot of fun to train with and knock down power on 2 legged critters would probably be amazing. I currently own a Beretta 92fs and a Kahr PM9 and feel undergunned. I'm thinking seriously about upgrading to a SIG or a Kimber .45 acp. My only beef is that I have several cases of 9mm ammo but I suppose I could sell off a couple, or work a swap at our local Range/Skeet/Trap Club.

Well once you get used to it you can take apart just about anything from a Porsche motor to a 1911. There is just a different learning curve and comfort level individually. The SIG P220 is in .45 ACP and is a fine weapon. One drawback to a 1911 is firepower...it only holds 8 rounds in the magazine and so does the Sig P220. The Sig P226 can hold 12 with 40 caliber and 15 with 9mm. If you use hollow points with 40 caliber it will knockdown 2 legged creatures enough...I am also thinking about getting a Colt M4 rifle as well that is NJ legal with a nice red dot site. That .223 round in hollow point will stop anyone just as good as a 45ACP and have longer reach in case the SHTF or something goes bump in the night.
