Guarantee
All RICK HINDERER KNIVES products are guaranteed against material defects and workmanship, and they carry a life time warranty. Our guarantee is void if the knife has been abused beyond normal wear and tear, altered from their stock condition, or used beyond what are considered normal parameters for the tool. It will be left up to us whether to repair or replace damaged or defective items.
Warranty
As long as Rick is breathing we will warranty at no cost to you, any material defects or workmanship that have a direct effect on the usefulness of the tool, or it’s intended purpose. Normal wear and tear issues like stripped screws, worn and scratched finishes, bent clips, blade wear, etc will fall under refurbishing, and there are fees associated. We also will not do warranty work on “pimped” or altered knives. Repairs to or work performed on your knife by any source other than us, voids the warranty. Our warranty does not cover damage caused by abuse, misuse, loss, improper handling, alterations, accident, neglect, dis-assembly, or improper sharpening. So if you have drilled any holes, interchanged parts between knives, installed parts that did not come from our shop including scales, screws, washers, etc, altered the knife with a file, sandpaper, dremel tool, or had the blade reground then your warranty is void. We also do not cover lost parts like, screws, clips, Lock Bar Stabilizers, etc. If we determine that there is a defect in the materials or workmanship, we will repair, or replace the product at our discretion.
If we determine that it is something other than a defect in workmanship or materials, we will inform you if the product can be repaired and your cost. If we cannot repair the knife, we will return it to you recommending that it should no longer be used. If your knife has been abused or has seen hard use for a long period of time, it is possible that the useful life of the product has been exceeded.
Knife Refurbishing
We will refinish a stock – unaltered knife for you, the cost for refurbishing varies depending on the work involved. We offer 3 types of refurbs – Bead Blast, Sand Blast, and Tumbled, we no longer refurb satin blade finishes. Most complete refurbs run around $65.00 + shipping. Before you send a knife to us, please contact us prior for details. We do refurbs when time and opportunity present themselves so we can provide a quick turnaround. It is not an open door policy, because there are times when we won’t be able to get right to it and we don’t want it to sit here in the shop.
**Rick is no longer refurbishing custom – satin finished blades**
We do offer anodizing for knives and pens, prices vary so please contact us for details.
Services we do not offer:
- We will not change the original finish, so for example we won’t tumble a knife that was originally blasted
- We will not do “custom” detent work. This would relate to having trouble flipping your knife without using wrist, we do not stiffen detents. Or in the case of someone who finds the detent too stiff, we do not lighten them either.
- We do not change or alter the lock bar engagement.
- We do not do regrinds of any sort
- We do not mark blade steel types after the knife has left the shop
“Pimped Knives”
We are going to continue to stress that we will not work on pimped knives or altered knives, period. This includes refurb or warranty work. If your knife is left in stock condition, and or upgraded with parts and accessories that we manufacture then we will have your back, if you chose to modify it in anyway, please remember you are doing it at your own risk.
We offer a wide range of scales, clips, standoffs, Steel Flame gear to customize your knife without any issue at all.

Military – Law Enforcement – Fire – EMT/EMS
Rick decided years ago to stop taking orders directly for XM folders, but left it open for military, law enforcement, fire, EMT/EMS personnel so they had quick access to tools they require in the field. Direct orders are prioritized based on if you have ordered from us in the past, and the frequency. If you are someone who has had the chance to have already purchased one directly from us, you will have to wait for us to work through the first timers. First time orders will get the priority, if there are knives left from the particular batch after those orders are processed we will address folks that have purchased previously.
The following CURRENT/ACTIVE personnel can order direct from us:
MILITARY – LEO – FIRE – EMT – EMS
We will ask that you verify your current employment with us prior to ordering. If you do not have an ID from one of the above fields, you are not qualified to order direct from us.
LEO/FIRE/EMT: We will request a copy of your ID, or a letter on Department Letterhead to verify employment. Active Military members: you can simply write us from your .mil address to verify. You may also provide a Statement of Service from your local personnel office- signed letter confirming military status, a written statement from your chain of command, or a Proof of Service letter found in vMPF under Self-Service actions/Personal Data – confirms service dates.
Parts
We do sell the following knife hardware – handle screws, clip screws, pivot washers, pocket clips, and filler tabs
We DO NOT Sell: Folding Knife Blades, Locksides, liners, pivots, handle nuts, blade stops, thumbstuds. If your knife requires one of these parts contact us for service.
Knife Care and Maintenance
Minimal care is all that is required to insure the maximum potential from your knife. Cleaning your knife periodically along with lubrication with a light oil is all that is needed, especially after exposure to salt water or an acidic environment.
We use premium stainless cutlery steels in all of our knives. Stainless steel provides outstanding edge retention and corrosion resistance, but can rust if not cared for. It is possible for rust to form when your knife is used in or around salt water, exposed to moisture, or simply neglected. If exposed to salt water, thoroughly rinse the knife with fresh water, and then dry completely and apply a light coat of oil to all steel parts.
It is a good idea to regularly inspect the interior of the knife for dirt and grime. Clean inside the handle with a Q-Tip and water with a small amount of detergent or mild soap. Rinse everything thoroughly, dry the knife inside and out and oil all of the steel components. A couple drops of lubricant around the pivot will slick up the action nicely.
Sharpening
A sharp knife is a happy knife, and sharp knives makes cutting safer and easier. You should maintain your knifes edge regularly, the more it is used and the duller the edge becomes the more difficult it is to sharpen. We do not promote one particular method or sharpening system, but there are numerous available.
We do offer sharpening as a service, the cost is $15 and that includes return shipping in the USA, please drop us a line for the details.
Knockoff / Counterfeit / Fakes
RICK HINDERER KNIVES designs are increasingly being copied by unscrupulous foreign manufacturers and we feel we have a major role in protecting our customers from knockoffs.
Counterfeit products strangle innovation, create unfair competition, they do economic harm to businesses, and of course they mislead consumers into purchasing poorly made, cheaply priced fakes. These substandard built products, especially knives can be a safety hazard. We will use all legal means to hold those accountable who manufacture, distribute and /or sell counterfeit RICK HINDERER KNIVES products.
